Bachelor, Master and Ph.D. of Engineering
    •   Department of Chemical Engineering and Institute of Biotechnology and Chemical Engineering at I-Shou University is accredited by IEET. Kaohsiung is a metropolitan city with many important industrial parks in the vicinity. Our program has the unique opportunity to provide students with the training in their professional fields in manufacturing process, materials technology, and biological technology through much on-going industrial-academic cooperation.
Facilities for research have been reinforced and initiatives for industrial-academic cooperation have been emphasized. Various resources have been consolidated to facilitate collaborative research joint ventures, to train students for basic research skills and to encourage cross-platform collaboration to achieve key breakthroughs in the fields of biotechnology, separation technology, green energy technology and chemical industry.

  • Introduction

    •   The Department was instituted at the same time as the ISU was established in 1990. Currently, the Department has a student body of 400 and recruits two classes each year.
Based on the technologies, principles and practices of chemistry, chemical engineering is a discipline through which the materials vital for human life are quantitatively produced in the most economical and safe fashion. Along with the development of modern technologies, the field of chemical engineering has become increasingly broader than ever before. Chemical engineers are constantly confronted with the tasks of not only improving human life by using ever-lasting innovative technologies, whilst also cleaning and protecting the environment from being polluted by using their expertise. In order to face the challenges of ever-growing strictness, the education of chemical engineering has become faceted and has progressively improved along with time.

  • Teaching and Research

    •   In line with the requirements of modern life, the Department has integrated Applied Chemistry, Material Sciences, and Biological Technologies into its curricula. Also based on the idea of parallel education combining “principles and applications” and “teaching and experiments”, the Department offers some courses related to leading-edge technologies of chemical engineering, such as Material Science and Biological Technologies, etc., other than the core courses. Students are future trained and aided in terms of career development through various field tours to related factories.
In order to better train the chemical engineering personnel, the department has a distinguished faculty composed of 1 Chair Professor, 4 professors, 10 associate professors, 5 assistant professors with doctoral degrees and 1 lecturer. Students are encouraged to join the research team of each faculty based on their expertise.

  • Curriculum and Facilities

    •   Other than teaching, the faculty members of the Department are also engaged in research of materials and techniques of electronic IC packages, chemicals for electronic applications, supercritical fluid technologies, fermentation technologies, cell and electrochemical technologies, and pollution protection technologies.
The research facilities originally include seven laboratories designated for unit operation, organic chemistry, process control, instrumental analysis, general chemistry, physical chemistry, supercritical fluids, biological technologies and IC packing. The Department is equipped with scores of costly instruments and the number is increasing every year in order to reach create the best teaching and research environment to generate top quality chemical engineers.

  • Career Development

    •   Due to the diversified discipline of performing professional practice in the industry as well as in other related fields, the Department offers sound fundamental training for a student who is well capable of being a qualified engineer in chemical fields or other sectors.
