ISU Shapes an Infinite Future by Elevating X+AI Education to 2.0

Since taking the lead in promoting its “X+AI” interdisciplinary innovative courses in 2018, ISU has broken through the conventional framework that limits AI to the information technology sector. By introducing AI into various departments, including engineering, medicine, design, and business management, the university enables students to integrate AI application capabilities into their professional foundations. In this model, “X” represents the professional core, while “AI” symbolizes the momentum for advancement; the fusion of the two has gradually shaped a forward-looking talent cultivation model. Over the past seven years, more than 250 faculty members across the university have committed to curriculum design and instructional innovation, resulting in a cumulative total of 281 course offerings. Today, the enrollment rate for undergraduate programming courses has reached 100%, while participation in advanced AI courses has approached 50%. These milestones fully demonstrate the concrete results of the university’s systematic layout and continuous transformation in promoting AI education.

To ensure that what students learn truly aligns with practical industry demands, ISU established Taiwan’s second NVIDIA supercomputer in 2020, creating an industry-grade high-performance computing environment to provide robust support for AI teaching and research. By integrating the Supercomputer Lab, the AI Innovation Center, the Semiconductor Advanced Process Virtual and Actual Areas, the Intelligent Design and Manufacturing Center, and the Intelligent Medical Education Center, the university has progressively built a comprehensive AI practical base and interdisciplinary innovation platform. At ISU, students go beyond theoretical learning; they gain hands-on experience with high-end equipment and participate in real-world application scenarios, connecting with the forefront of industry technology to cultivate future-ready practical skills.

Industry-university collaboration is a defining feature of ISU. The university has partnered with the ASE Group to establish the Micro-credit Program in Semiconductors and collaborated with the Konzern Group to create AR/VR immersive engineering training. Additionally, tourism and hospitality-related departments have established a dual-mentor strategic alliance with the Kaohsiung Marriott Hotel. At the same time, the Department of Visual Arts and Design has forged a collaboration with the renowned animation studio, Comic Studio. Furthermore, the Headquarters for Industry-University Collaboration and Intellectual Property Management has assisted over a hundred enterprises in driving digital transformation and net-zero upgrades. Through these industry-university collaboration projects, students have opportunities to participate in real-world assignments during their studies, gain practical experience, and cultivate the skills to be job-ready upon graduation.

Beginning in 2025, ISU officially launched the “X+AI 2.0 Theme-based Course Clusters,” elevating talent cultivation from “Learning AI” to “Learning with AI.” The curriculum is structured around a four-layer framework, foundational, advanced, application, and ethical capabilities, focusing on three key application areas: Smart Manufacturing, Smart Medical Care and Nursing, and Smart Sustainable Environments. Simultaneously, the university promotes interdisciplinary micro-programs to enhance students’ cross-domain integration and practical application skills. While deepening technical proficiency, ISU also emphasizes that “leveraging technology for utility while keeping ethics at its core.” Under the X+AI 2.0 framework, “digital life ethics” is designated as a core module to systematically cultivate students’ media literacy, information judgment, AI ethics, and privacy protection. This empowers students not only to master technology but also to understand its boundaries and responsibilities, enabling them to become AI-era professionals equipped with both expertise and the capacity for value judgment.

This forward-looking strategic layout has also earned recognition from authoritative institutions. In Global Views Monthly’s 2025 University Survey, ISU was honored as the “Most Promising Private University” in the School Innovation category, recognized for its outstanding performance in AI development strength and sustainable institutional operations. From proactive strategic planning to continued leadership, and from curriculum innovation to industry-ready training, ISU is progressively shaping a new paradigm for talent cultivation in the AI era. Choosing ISU is not just about entering a university; it is about gaining a competitive edge in tomorrow’s industries.

These achievements testify to ISU’s growing institutional competitiveness. This February, the university solidified its regional leadership by claiming the top spot among Southern Taiwan’s private comprehensive universities in Global Views Monthly’s rankings, following its recognition as the top choice among enterprises in Southern Taiwan in the “2026 Most Favored Graduates by Employers Survey” by 1111 Job Bank in January. These consecutive accolades are more than mere honors; they are a direct reflection of the university’s academic excellence. For seven years, ISU has deepened its “X+AI” interdisciplinary education, bridging the gap between foundational training and industry practice to equip students with the ability to co-create with AI and solve real-world complexities. As the future unfolds, ISU is committed to nurturing the pivotal talent who will not only navigate but lead the transformation of our era.
