Center for General Education (CGE) of I-Shou University originated from the General Education Committee of the Office of Academic Affairs. In August 2002, the former President, Professor Shen-Li Fu, decided to upgrade the quality of the general education. Therefore, the Center must be reintegrated and reorganized with other academic and administrative units and be established as a college-level center.

In August 2003, the former director, Professor Chi-Yen Shen, took on the task, and in April 2004 the Ministry of Education approved this integration. The incumbent director, Professor Rey-Chue Hwang, has been striving to improve the curriculum of CGE as well as liberal arts events, which are to enrich the general education.
