History

The ISU Office of Library and Information Services occupies the main area of the Science and Technology Building in the main campus, commanding a spectacular central location of the University. In 2012, the Library and the Computer Center consolidated and formed the Office of Library and Information Services. There are four floors with over 8,136 square meters of floor space, providing 2,600 seats. The Office provides seminar rooms for meetings and instruction, areas for group study, and reading tables and study carrels for individual use. A Learning Center equipped with over a hundred multimedia personal computers and audio-visual facilities, as well as educational and recreational materials, are available for self-learning and training sessions.

As an integral component of the academic programs, the Office supports the University's teaching and research in electrical and information engineering, science and engineering, business and management, and the medical sciences. The Office is much more than a repository for the accumulated knowledge of our civilization; it serves as the heart of our intellectual enterprise.

The rapid development of the University requires a correspondingly rapid rate of growth in its library collection. In 2014, the Office has a collection of more than 343,000 volumes of books and 1,200 bound periodicals, as well as a sizable collection of electronic and non-print materials. Reaching beyond local holdings, the Office has made extensive provisions for various applications of the latest information technology. The Office's Online System forms a part of the campus-wide network, and is therefore accessible from every part of the campus. Through the Office's Online System users are able to consult a broad range of bibliographic and full-text information as well as to search CD-ROM databases. The Office is linked via Internet to libraries and databases in institutions locally and overseas.

To provide and to promote the general education to our students and faculty, the Office places equal emphasis on the provision of quality services for its users. Our experienced librarians assist patrons in a variety of ways, from the selection, acquisition, and cataloging of materials to providing assistance in using the collection, online services and interlibrary loans. We encourage you to become familiar with our user-friendly online system and also to explore the wealth of materials available in the Office's collection. The Office staff are committed to meeting the varied needs of this academic community. To assist you, the Office's website is available at http://www.lib.isu.edu.tw/.
