| About I-Shou University |
I-Shou University is situated on the east side of fascinating Guan-Yin Mountain in Kaohsiung County. Kaohsiung, located in the southwest of Taiwan, is the largest commercial harbor and the second biggest city in Taiwan. Due to warm ocean currents, Kaohsiung has a pleasant climate with abundant sunshine. In addition, there are convenient sea, land and air transportation links. Kaohsiung International Airport has 12 airlines flying to cities worldwide. |
I-Shou University was founded in 1986 and began recruiting students in 1990. Dr. Shen-Li Fu has been the president since the university’s opening. Over the past 13 years, I-Shou has expanded from seven departments to five colleges, and twenty-eight departments, offering twelve master programs and six doctoral programs. Student numbers have grown from 200 in 1990 to 15,000 in 2005. At I-Shou, 80% of the faculty hold doctoral degrees, topping other universities and colleges in southern Taiwan. According to Statistics Institution “Internet Lab”, I-Shou ranked 1st among private universities in Taiwan in 2005, and 55th for all universities in Asia. |

To meet the increasing demand of Chinese Language Learning all over the world, I-Shou university established the Chinese Language Center, which offers an enviable Chinese learning environment with distinguished teaching quality. |
The center designs and provides both general and intensive Chinese courses for foreign students and overseas Chinese. In addition to improving the Chinese ability of foreign students and overseas Chinese, the courses bring students closer to Chinese and Taiwan indigenous culture, and facilitate interchanges among the international body. During the study program, a number of cultural activities and excursions are arranged to let students experience the vitality and the beauty of Chinese culture. |
